Instructor Ed Measom has incorporated the Cicerone Certification Program into his Seminar in Brewing and Fine Beer. Seventy-eight percent of Measom's students passed the exam during the Spring 2011 semester. If this trend continues, about 150 Cicerone Certified Beer Servers will graduate from Rosen College into the hospitality industry every year.
Ray Daniels, president of the Craft Beer Institute and developer of the Cicerone program shares, "Employers who know good beer will look forward to hiring those who have earned this certification." Read on...

Student Success

Lucy Feigel, a Hospitality Management major, has enjoyed an eventful summer internship with Morey's Piers & Beachfront Waterparks in Wildwood, NJ. As an Operations Supervisor, she serves as a liaison between management and ride operators to resolve issues and facilitate communications. Fiegel raves that Morey's Piers management has "supported her desires throughout the summer." Additionally, she was filmed for a one-hour TLC pilot highlighting the summer season at Morey's Piers. The episode is pending series release for summer 2012 and will air Labor Day weekend.
Students in instructor A'Rion Raymond's Event Management II class recently assisted with a professional networking and education event. Read on...
Lea Palmer has been accepted as a Catering & Convention Services Professional Intern with the Walt Disney World Resort® for the Fall 2011 term. She has worked with Puff n' Stuff Catering and as a server, hostess and trainer for 310 Park South. Palmer will be work with Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and provide support and assistance to clients while they are in-house.

Alumni Achievements

Rita M. Perez, class of 2008, is the owner of RitaVentures, LLC . In addition to planning group and fundraising travel, her company caters to the niche market of "girlfriends and their adventures." RitaVentures celebrates the bond between women and offers packages for birthdays, bachelorette parties, mother/daughter getaways and more. Perez is a member of professional organizations including the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) and the National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA). While at Rosen College she was actively involved in on-campus organizations, including the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH), and enjoyed extensive national and international travel. In June, Perez started building a Baker's Cruise for spring 2012 and rolled out the company's first travel newsletter.

Holly Storm, class of 2010, was recently hired by Darden's Seasons 52 restaurant. She has been training in Tampa for ten weeks, and will relocate to King of Prussia, PA as a Service Manager after completion. While at Rosen College, Storm's Chicken Sausage Stuffed Sweetbread placed third in the 6th annual Spain National Tapas Competition in November 2010. She proudly represented Rosen College, the only hospitality management program participating in the competition.
Three alumni have been accepted as Catering & Convention Services Professional Interns with the Walt Disney World Resort® for the Fall 2011 term:
- Angie Cotter, B.S. in Event Management. Cotter will be assisting with Disney's Contemporary Resort internal events.
- Holly Stone, B.S. in Event Management. Stone will work with the Coronado Springs Convention Services team working on in-house events at the theme parks.
- Ashley Williams, B.S. in Event Management. Williams will work with the Coronado Springs Convention Services team with internal clients on park events.
